Childhood Emotional Neglect
โChildhood Emotional Neglect is a parentโs failure to respond enough to the childโs emotional needs. Children who are emotionally neglected then grow up to have a particular set of struggles. Because their emotions were not validated as children, they may have difficulty knowing and trusting their own emotions as adultsโ — Dr. Jonice Webb
When your foundational emotional needs were not effectively met as a child you experienced Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN).
Childhood is when we should learn how to meet our own needs through the example of our caregivers. In cases of neglect those vital skills were not learned. CEN is challenging to identify and heal from because we need to heal from the lack of what happened.
Your task now, as an adult, is to learn what you were never taught, and to be the caregiver or parent that you never had in order to meet your own core needs.
This website was created to provide resources to get you started on your journey of healing.
